The police have arrested a man, 24 after he attempted to rape a young woman in the region of Samegrelo. He was sentenced to pre-trial detention.
The detainee's family members say that the offender is mentally challenged; however, the judge refused to consider this factor as an attenuating circumstance.
"He is mentally challenged, suffers from epilepsy and other disorders, and imprisonment may worsen his condition any time," his family member told the TV Pirveli Channel.
