French writer wins Booker Prize

For the first time, a French writer won the 2021 Booker Prize. David Diop was awarded the prize for the novel "At Night All Blood is Black."

The novel was translated into English by Anna Moschovakis.

Diop and Anna Moschovakis will share the cash prize, which amounted to 50,000 pounds sterling.

David Diop, originally from Senegal, is a professor of eighteenth-century literature. "At Night All Blood is Black" is his second novel, which has won several prestigious awards. It is now being translated into 13 languages. Senegal is at the center of the story. The country fought on the French side on the Western Front during World War I.
