Today, Madrid’s Museo del Prado is celebrating its 200th anniversary.
More than 200 million people worldwide visit the museum annually. Opened on this day in 1819, the museum is home to thousands of Spanish paintings from the 12th century to the 20th century, including masterpieces by El Greco, Francisco Goya, Diego Velázquez, amongst other European masters.
