Tomb of King Levan Bagrationi found in the Gremi Temple

The archeological expedition of the Georgian National Museum has found the tomb of the Georgian King Levan Bagrationi in the Gremi Archangel Cathedral.

According to the museum, Levan Bagrationi reigned in the Kingdom of Kakheti for 54 years (1518-1574). Historical sources and legends say that he was supposed to be buried in the complex of the Temple of the Archangels in the city of Gremi, built by his efforts, but the specific location of the resting place was unknown.

Fragments and other specimens taken will be surveyed for final identification.
