Azerbaijan Georgia's major bitumen supplier

Georgia imported 82.1 thousand tonnes of bitumen (63.8% of the country's total imports) from Azerbaijan in 2020. Azerbaijan proves to be Georgia's major supplier of bitumen.

Other countries that also supply Georgia with bitumen are as follows: Iraq (26.6 thousand tonnes or 20.7%), Iran (9.1 thousand tonnes or 7.1%), Russia (7.2 thousand tonnes or 5.6%), Turkey (2.4 thousand tonnes or 1.9%), Armenia (0.9 thousand tonnes or 0.7%), the United Arab Emirates (0.2 thousand tonnes or 0.1%), and Albania (0.2 thousand tonnes or 0.1%).

Georgia imported 85.8% (145.7 thousand tonnes) of bitumen from Iran in 2019, while from Azerbaijan, it imported 9.6 thousand tonnes (5.6%).

Georgia experienced a downward trend in oil bitumen imports in 2020. The country bought a total of 128.7 tonnes of bitumen last year, which is 41.3 thousand tonnes or 24.3% less than the same figure in 2019. Georgia imported 170 thousand tonnes of bitumen in 2019.

The main reason for reduced oil imports proves to be the global pandemic.
