Azerbaijani investments in Georgia fall

Per the preliminary data by the National Statistics Office, Azerbaijani investors withdrew USD 30.8 mln investments from Georgia, with the most portion of it (USD 13.9 mn) withdrawn in the first quarter of the year. 

In 2018, Azerbaijan invested USD 246.4 mln in the Georgian economy, while in 2019, FDI from Azerbaijan equaled USD 35.8 mln. 

Last year, the members of the Commonwealth of Independent States channeled USD 20.1 mln FDI into Georgia, with the highest amount of investments performed by Russia  (25.5 mln USD), Ukraine (USD 11.8 mln), and Armenia (6.7 mln). 

Azerbaijan proves the only member of the CIS, from which FDI in Georgia has fallen. 

Last year, FDI in Georgia amounted to $616.9 mln, which is 52.9% less than that of 2019.

British investors performed the largest investments in Georgia in the pandemic-hit year, with  their investments totaling USD 307 mln.
