China becomes EU's first trading partner

In 2020, China became the EU's largest trading partner for the first time. The country replaced the United States, a historic ally of the European Union.

According to a report by the European Commission's Statistics Agency, Eurostat, last year, EU imports from China increased by 5.6% and were up to 383.5 billion euros, while exports to China increased by 2.2%, 202.5 billion euros.

The United States' dynamics are the opposite - American imports to the EU fell by 13.2%, 202 billion euros, while EU exports to the United States fell by 8.2% - 353 billion euros.
