Cost of $ 1 exceeds 16 liras

For the second day in a row, the Turkish national currency is falling to a record high.

The lira has depreciated by 2.5% against the US dollar over the past day. According to December 17 trading data, one US dollar is worth 16.19 liras.

On Thursday, the Central Bank of Turkey decided to reduce the discount rate from 15% to 14%.

The dollar was still worth 6.9 lira in February, after which the Turkish currency depreciated by almost 120 percent.

The lira fell sharply after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan fired three senior central bank officials, including two deputy governors.
