Cost of 1 US dollar exceeds 17 liras

The Turkish lira has depreciated again and is at a record low against the US dollar. According to Report.ge, the country's National Bank publishes information about it.

As of December 20 trading data, one US dollar is worth 16.19 liras.

Last week, the Central Bank of Turkey decided to reduce the discount rate from 15% to 14%.

The dollar was still worth 6.9 lira in February, after which the Turkish currency depreciated by almost 120 percent.

The lira fell sharply after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan fired three senior central bank officials, including two deputy governors.
