Foreign direct investments drop in Georgia

As the National Statistics Office of Georgia reports, in Jan – Apr 2020, the total foreign direct investments equaled 265.4 mln USD.

The office reports that the 2020 rate is 41.7% less than in Jan – Apr 2019.

The UK is the largest investor with 44.2%, followed by the United States - 17.0% and Panama - 11.9%.

The share of the three largest sectors under the foreign direct investments amounted to 87.5% in the first quarter of 2020.

The financial sector received the most massive volume of foreign direct investment in the amount of 94.9 mln USD and equaled 57.4% of the total investment.

The real estate sector ranks second with 34 mln USD investment, followed by the hotel and restaurants with 15.8 mln USD.
