Georgia promoted by 6 steps in the Global Peace Index

The Institute for Economics and Peace, an international research organization, has released its 2021 Global Peace Index report. Data from 163 countries, where 99.7% of the world's population lives, reflect the level of peace in 2020.

Georgia holds 89th place in the rating and has advanced by six steps compared to the previous year.

The Institute assessed world peace in three main areas: The first - militarization; the Second - public protection; Third - internal and external conflicts.

It should be noted that in 2007-2012, for six consecutive years, Georgia was in the last platoon of the ranking every year with the status of a "less peaceful" country. According to a 2010 report, Georgia even had the status of a "very non-peaceful" country. In 2010, Georgia ranked 156th out of 163 countries.

Iceland has again been named the most peaceful country in the world, ranking first since 2008. It is followed by New Zealand, Denmark, Portugal, Slovenia, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, the Czech Republic, and Canada.

The Peace Index has improved in 87 countries over the past year, while it has deteriorated in 73.
