First Georgian ICC judge takes oath - VIDEO

Georgian Justice Minister Gocha Lortkipanidze, who has made history by becoming the first Georgian judge at the Hague-based International Criminal Court (ICC) for nine-year tenure, was sworn in today.

The newly elected ICC judges will start officially fulfilling their duties later.

Mr. Lortkipanidze is the first Georgian to be elected as an ICC judge.

The election was held on 19 December 2020, with 76 delegates voting for Lortkipanidze.

Before officially taking on his duties as an ICC judge, Gocha Lortkipanidze will keep serving as Georgia's Justice Minister.
