Georgia Interior Ministry releases statement over Svaneti incident

For the attack on police officers, police detained three identified as V.G., born in 1979, G.U., born in 1990, and G.U., born in 1992.

“On April 17 this year in the village of Khaishi, the detainees resisted the police officers and physically insulted them as they responded to the offense. One police officer was injured and provided with first aid. His health condition is modrate,” the ministry reports.

Police arrested the defendants shortly after the incident. An investigation is underway.

The detainees face four to seven years in jail.
