Besik Ivanishvili, who is facing the charge of sexually abusing an 11-year-old has been remanded in custody. The lawyer requested the defendant's release on bail; however, his request was denied. The Kutaisi City Court is holding the 29-year-old man in custody before the trial.
Mr. Ivanishvili was detained on 16 May in Sachkhere municipality and charged with sexual misconduct with a minor. Perpetrators of similar offenses are jailed for 8 to 10 years.
