Man found not guilty of alleged rape

The Batumi City Court has reportedly declared a defendant who faced rape charges not guilty. According to the case materials, the incident took place at one of apartment buildings in Batumi. As witnesses said, a woman, who cried and persistently repeated "fire" in Russian, asked them for help. When the police arrived, she told them that she was raped. A bruise was visible on the alleged victim's skin. Shortly after the woman's statement, a citizen was detained, who was charged with rape.

At the court trial, the defendant confirmed that he had a sexual intercourse with the woman; however, he maintained that it was consensual. By his saying, a conflict occurred when the woman saw other woman's messages in the defendant's phone. In trying to explain himself, he grabbed her hand and she sustained a bruise as a result.

Eventually, the court found the detainee guilty on one count, namely, for subjecting the women to violence, and not guilty of alleged rape. He was sentenced to six months in prison.
