Dunja Mijatovic: The Parliament of Georgia should refuse to adopt the bill

The Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights responds to a draft law on the abolition of the Office of the State Inspector of Georgia. Dunja Mijatovic publishes the appeal on the official website of the Council of Europe. She calls on the Parliament of Georgia to refrain from adopting the draft law in an expedited manner and without proper consultation with stakeholders.

"The Parliament of Georgia should refuse to adopt a bill that would impair the independent functioning of the State Inspector's Office.

If adopted, the bill will only weaken the independent functioning of national human rights mechanisms in Georgia," the commissioner wrote.
