The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili made the first statement after the operation to arrest the National Movement's chairperson, Nika Melia. According to him, Nika Melia is a criminal, and the police showed the highest standard during the operation.
Irakli Gharibashvili thanked Vakhtang Gomelauri and called him an effective Minister of Internal Affairs.
"I remind everyone that Melia was convicted in the bankruptcy case of Cartu Bank. His arrest was related to the organization of the assault on this building to test our state institutions. We are building a state governed by the rule of law. Every citizen is obliged to obey the law. As for the practice and methods used - this is the standard of civilized, democratic countries. Of course, we will protect the freedom of expression of all citizens; we understand that everything should be within the framework of the Constitution and the law," Irakli Gharibashvili said.
The law enforcers have arrested Nika Melia. The chairperson of the "National Movement" was removed from the party office by the special forces.
