PM: April 9 will remain symbol of sacrifice for homeland, freedom, and unity

In his social media post, PM Irakli Gharibashvili wrote that on April 9, 1989, the Georgian people made a resolute decision to restore their independence.

According to the Prime Minister, the crackdown on peaceful protesters proved the turning point in the history of Georgia and other former SU countries.

''April 9 will remain a symbol of sacrifice for the homeland, freedom, and unity. Today, we are commemorating our heroes, and in doing so, we are sad and proud simultaneously. Together with my people, I kneel before those glorious men and women who sacrificed their lives to pave the way for their country's freedom,'' the PM's statement reads.
