PM Irakli Gharibashvili issues statement

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili has called upon different political parties to avoid provocative actions.

''Tensions are running high with local self-government elections nearing in Georgia. I want to be clear on this: violence or intimidation by any group or party is unacceptable.

I have said earlier, and now I reiterate that any violence must be denounced. Georgian people want peace, stability, and wellbeing. Our people deserve an election campaign in line with our country's values, demonstrating our nation's loyalty to the idea of democracy.

I appeal to all political parties, their activists and supporters, especially radical members of the opposition, to restrain from provocative action that may trigger violence and exacerbate the existing situation,'' the PM stated.
