Tbilisi mayor says ex-president 'must be held accountable for' his misdeeds

''Third President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili committed grave crimes, and he must be held accountable for them,'' said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze.

''Why should anyone enjoy keeping the former president behind bars? How can similar facts be enjoyed? However, if a person perpetrated grave crimes, if he created a regime that murdered and brought misfortunes to families, young people, and literary destroyed them, did we like that? This must end for good, and no one can dare to subject their country's citizens to oppression and violence,'' Kaladze stressed.

Mikheil Saakashvili, who was detained on Oct 1, has been on a hunger strike for 35 days now.
