FB to buy a startup that defines the exact place of a taken photo

The London-based computer vision startup working on location accuracy beyond the capabilities of GPS, has been acquired by Facebook, according to a regulatory filing. Scape Technologies was developing a “Visual Positioning Service” based on computer vision which lets developers build apps that require location accuracy far beyond the capabilities of GPS alone. The visual positioning system of artificial intellect can pin a 3D photo on a map. Correspondingly, the customer can define the place of a building or space shown in the photo.

It is yet unknown how this appliance can be used in the social network. Though, allegedly, they plan to montage it in reality glasses. If it works, the technology will enable traveling to the needed location by viewing the buildings only - the technology to dictate where to move to get to the place reflected in the photo.
