Amiran Gamkrelidze: This is alarming signal

NCDC Head Amiran Gamkrelidze has defined a decrease in the number of people wearing face masks as an "alarming signal."

"The number of people wearing face masks has shrunk and is now at 43%. This is an alarming signal indicating that the epidemiological situation in Georgia may worsen," Gamkrelidze stressed.

The epidemiologist calls on the public to follow recommendations by wearing face masks, keeping a safe social distance, and avoiding large public gatherings. Otherwise, in his words, case numbers may still rise, the first signs of which have already resurfaced. According to Gamkrelidze, different respiratory viruses, together with coronavirus, are expected to emerge in the country in March and April.

Georgia recorded 513 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours to bring the total tally to 273,650. The country has so far registered 267,111 recoveries (96 recent).

The death toll rose by 12 in a single day and now stands at 3,613.
