An ancient holiday in Svaneti - VIDEO

Lamproba is one of the oldest Georgian holidays, preserved only in Svaneti.

The exact meaning of the holiday is unknown, but according to one legend, it took place to remember the dead.

Traditionally, at night, people brought torches for those men who died in their families and took them to their graves.

At six o'clock in the morning, the elders, together with the youth, gather at the specially selected place and meet the sunrise singing. Families bake bread and ask St. George for the wealth and prosperity of future generations.

The governor's press service released the video of Lamproba.
