Geographical feature in Tbilisi to be named after Giya Kancheli

One of the geographical features in Tbilisi will be named after legendary Georgian composer Giya Kancheli. According to the Tbilisi City Assembly, the procedures of selection of and naming the location will be carried out in consideration of the opinions of the composer’s family members and the interested public.

Giya Kancheli died at 84 on Oct 2.

The Composer will be buried at the Didube Pantheon on Oct 5, with the wake being held on Oct 3-4 on Tovstonogov street #6 in Tbilisi.

The illustrious composer left a legacy of glorious music for both the cinema and the theatre. He also created a number of orchestra works, choral and opera music, etc.
