Georgia celebrates Independence Day

Independence Day is celebrated in Georgia on May 26.

Exactly 103 years ago, on May 26, 1918, the National Council of Georgia in Tbilisi adopted the Act of State Independence.

The Democratic Republic of Georgia, whose independence was recognized by the leading European countries, ceased to exist less than three years after the occupation by Soviet Russia.

Georgia was able to regain its independence on April 9, 1991.
