Georgia police arrest one for trafficking in Kakheti region

A farm owner was arrested in the village of Gavazi, Kvareli region of Georgia, for human trafficking using life-threatening violence.

In 2019 the accused invited a citizen of the Russian Federation A.F. to work on a farm in the village of Gavazi, Kvareli region, being in his temporary use.

The accused also promised decent living conditions.

“Zh.N. took away A.F.’s passport, strictly controlled his free movement, placed him in a room intended for animals, and created conditions similar to slavery. Besides, he abused him.

On February 10, 2021, Zh.N. again physically abused A.F., and the latter suffered multiple fractures of his ribs.

J.N. continued physical abuse and forced him to work. On March 10, A.F. died,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.

Police arrested Zh.N. on March 11. He faces 15 to 20 years in jail.
