Georgia sees record increase in number of COVID cases

Georgia has detected 2,859 new cases of the novel coronavirus infection, and the number of infected reached 54 852, Georgian official Alexander Khojevanishvili says.

The number of recovered increased by 2,754 and totaled 39,773.

Georgia observed the first case of the novel coronavirus infection on February 26, 2020.

The World Health Organization declared the pandemic on March 11.

The pneumonia-causing infection outbreak began in China in December 2019.

On January 21, 2020, China confirmed the virus's human-to-human transmission and declared a quarantine in its two cities.
