Georgian TV broadcasting turns 65

Georgia's first TV channel has turned 65. The first program aired on December 30, 1956.

Galaktion Tabidze, Irakli Abashidze, Ioseb Grishashvili, Arnold Chikobava, Giorgi Leonidze, Grigol Abashidze, Nodar Dumbadze, Ioseb Noneshvili, Ana Kalandadze, Murman Lebanidze, Sergo Zakariadze, Sesilia Tayaishvili, Veriko Anjaparidze, Medea Japaridze, directors: Mikheil Tumanishvili, Robert Sturua, and composers: Andria Balanchivadze, Revaz Laghidze, and others participated in the first TV shows. Their records are included in the "Gold Fund."

In the very first years of television broadcasting, a television theater was established.

In 1957, the first live report from the Dinamo Stadium, broadcast by Erosi Manjgaladze and Kote Makharadze, was broadcast on a mobile television station.

Georgia's first television station was transformed into a public broadcaster in 2005 and today is the largest producer of Georgian products for television, radio, and digital platforms.
