President Zurabishvili releases statement

President Zurabishvili has responded to the Buknari religious conflict between Christians and Muslims by stressing that no one is entitled 'to trample on the Georgians' historic achievement, which is tolerance.'

"Georgia has always taken pride in its religious diversity, which is its invaluable asset, the basis of its power, which we have always cherished.

Our constitution ensures that our citizens be entitled to freedom of belief and religious practices. This right of theirs can never be restricted.

Similar conflicts are very rare in our country, but I must stress that nobody is entitled to trample on the Georgians' historic achievement, which is tolerance," the statement reads.
