US Ambassador pays tribute to Georgian heroes fallen in Abkhazia

Ambassador Kelly C. Degnan and members of Walter Reed Army Institute of Research in Georgia laid wreaths at Heroes Square.

They paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the Georgia-Abkhazia military conflict in 1992-1993.

The US Embassy to Georgia has released an official statement regarding this day.

"27 years ago, on this day, Sokhumi fell. This grave tragedy resulted in thousands losing their lives and hundreds of thousands forced from their homes.

We remember this day with sorrow and with the hope that remains in the hearts of so many internally displaced people,'' the statement reads.
