Zurab Japaridze requires that imprisonment be abolished for cannabis cultivation

Political party Girchi (Cone) leader Zurab Japaridze demands that imprisonment be abolished for the cultivation of cannabis; the motion has already been submitted to the Constitutional Court, according to the Girchi party press office. In Zurab Japaridze's words, sending people to jail for cannabis cultivation is a reckless move.

"Avtandil Metreveli from Chiature is at risk of receiving a six-year jail sentence for cannabis cultivation, with his judge being Zura Balavadze, who sentenced a man to 6 years in prison a week ago. For cannabis cultivation, such a tough punishment is sheer insanity and hell in which we have to live. Jailing a man for the cultivation of a legal plant is almost the same as putting somebody behind bars for the cultivation of the cucumber," Zurab Japaridze declared.
