Abandoned houses in Japan sold for $ 500

The Japanese government is selling the empty houses in the countryside for $ 500, Insider writes.

According to official data, about 8 million houses in the country have been empty for years and are waiting for new residents. Since 2013, their number has grown by 3.2 percent.

Japanese publications write that the government is giving these houses to some families for free.

To increase the interest of citizens in empty houses, the government issues a number of subsidies.

Most of the abandoned houses are located in Wakayama, Tokushima, Kagoshima, and Kochi prefectures.
