EU calls for de-escalation of Karabakh conflict

The European Union called on the parties to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to cease hostilities, de-escalate, and strictly observe the ceasefire. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said.

"The EU calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, de-escalation, and strict compliance with the ceasefire. We need an immediate return to negotiations, without preconditions, on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs," the statement reads.

Tensions have been observed at the Azerbaijan-Armenia border since the early morning. Azerbaijani media say that Armenia carried out a large-scale attack this morning and killed peaceful citizens.

Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reports that Azerbaijani troops opened fire in response.
