Lukashenko says he asked Russia military support

Belarus’s President Alexander Lukashenko said that he asked Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin for military support, Reuters reports.

Mr. Lukashenko has not specified the type and quantity of military equipment he requested from his Russian colleague.

“I asked the Russian leader for the latest military equipment, and we can now control the situation not only in Belarus but also across its borders,” he said.

The Russian and Belarusian leaders met Monday in the resort city of Sotchi. At the meeting, they agreed that Belarus would receive USD 1,5 bln from Russia.
