Police use water cannon to disperse Minsk protests

In the center of Belarus's capital, law enforcement officers used water cannons to disperse the participants of the "March of Pride" protest rally, local news agency Tut.by reports.

Police officers detained 50 demonstrators at an anti-government protest in Minsk today, including journalists from various foreign editions.

The protests in Belarus began after the announcement of the results of the presidential elections.

Citizens believe that the August 9 elections were held in violation of the rules and demand the resignation of the current president Alexander Lukashenko.

Besides, the protesters demand the release of political prisoners and punish those responsible for the use of force against the protesters during the demonstrations.
