Riots in Ethiopia resulted in death of 239 people

During the riots caused by the murder of Hachalu Hundessa, a well-known singer in Ethiopia, the death toll reached 239. The agency France-Presse revealed the information about the incident.

According to the Oromia Regional Police, 215 civilians got killed, including five military and nine law enforcement officers.

On June 28, a 34-year-old singer Hachalu Hundessa, known for his political texts and criticism of the government, was shot dead in the suburbs of the capital, Addis Ababa. His compositions became a kind of anthem two years ago during the rallies.

Before his death, the singer claimed that he was threatened with death.

Police arrested 1 084 people during the protest last week.
