Rise of islands planned to save Kiribati

The Kiribati government plans to raise the islands. The reason is that the water level in the ocean is rising, which threatens to flood the state. The Guardian writes about the possible threat.

According to the country's president, Taneti Maamau, the plan is to raise Tarawa Island, where the capital is located. For this, sand will be removed from the seabed.

Maamau noted that the New Zealand Institute for Water and Atmospheric Research is also involved in developing a flood prevention strategy.
