Seven killed in Senegal clashes

In Senegal, clashes between protesters and law enforcement officials claimed seven people, including one minor.

On March 6, a 17-year-old boy was shot dead in the town of Diaobe as a crowd of young people ransacked government buildings.

According to local media reports, there have not been such large-scale riots in Senegal over the past several decades.

Protesters smashed shop windows, set fire to police stations, and destroyed cars.

In turn, police officers used teargas against them.

On March 3, one of the opposition leaders, Usman Sonko, was arrested on charges of rape. The politician himself claims that he is innocent.

According to him, the government is trying to eliminate a rival in the presidential elections.
