Suspect in murder of Ukrainian activist arrested

Security Service of Ukraine arrested local official and the head of the Kherson Oblast Council Vladyslav Manger on charges of ordering the acid attack on activist and Mayor's adviser, Kateryna Gandziuk. The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine spreads information regarding the case.

In the near future, Manger will appear in Kyiv's Pechersky District Court, where the court will discuss the preventive measures.

Manger got declared a suspect in connection with the attack on Gandziuk in August of 2019. He was arrested but later released on bail.

According to the investigation, Manger and Oleksiy Levin, former assistant to a local lawmaker, were behind the planned attack on Gandziuk, which led to her death.

The attack on Kateryna Gandziuk took place in July 2018. The 33-year-old activist was injected with acid on July 31 in the Ukrainian city of Kherson. After the attack, 40% of her body burned. She underwent 11 surgeries.
