The USA and Taliban to sign the agreement today

A week-long "reduction in violence" between the Taliban, the United States took effect on Friday, raising hopes for a resolution to the 18-year-long war by signing a historic agreement. President Trump said he had sent Mike Pompeo to "to witness the signing of the agreement and prepare the ground for a political settlement between the warring sides."

"If the Taliban and the government of Afghanistan live up to these commitments, we will have a powerful path forward to end the war in Afghanistan and bring our troops home. These commitments represent an important step to a lasting peace in a new Afghanistan, free from Al Qaeda, ISIS, and any other terrorist group that would seek to bring us harm." - Trump said in a statement.

The agreement signing ceremony will take place in Doha, Qatar; it is the place where the negotiations between the USA and Taliban has been taking place for one year.
