As part of the ongoing investigation into the fact of sexual assault on a girl under the age of 14, the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has charged the mother E.S. of a minor for not reporting a particularly serious crime, the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia spreads information.
According to the statement, the ongoing investigation in the Ministry of Internal Affairs revealed that from 2017 to 2020, Z.M. used the helplessness of a girl under the age of 14 with prior knowledge and systematically raped her by using violence. As a result of Z.M.'s actions, the minor became pregnant and gave birth to a child on June 21, 2020.
"The investigation revealed that E.S. found out about the fact that Z.M.'s raped her daughter but did not inform the law enforcement agency about it.
E.S. was charged under Article 376, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (failure to report a crime by someone who knows that a particularly serious crime has been committed), which envisages 3 to 7 years of imprisonment.
The prosecution will apply to the Tbilisi City Court with a motion to impose a measure of restraint on E.S. within the timeframe established by law.
The criminal case is under investigation.
The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia shall take all necessary measures provided for by the legislation of Georgia in order to protect the legal interests of the juvenile victim, together with the relevant agencies involved in the process," the statement reads.
