Police have arrested a 21-year-old boy who hacked the Facebook account of 3 citizens, misled friends, fraudulently confiscated bank plastic card details, and embezzled various amounts of money.

According to the investigation, the detainee used Facebook to transfer the misappropriated funds from the deceived citizens, first to the account of the online casino and the bookmaker and then to his bank accounts.

The offense carries a maximum sentence of 5 to 7 years in prison.

"Employees of the Investigation Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, as a result of the investigative actions detained A.B., born in 2000, who was convicted of a similar crime in the past on charges of unauthorized access to a computer system for financial gain.

The accused also hacked into the Facebook page of a clergyman working at the Tabori Monastery in Tbilisi in October 2021 without permission and contacted his parish on behalf of the man. A.B. fraudulently confiscated bank plastic card details and Internet banking SMS passwords from the parishioners, ostensibly to transfer money from abroad, allowing him unauthorized access to their accounts for misappropriating money," MIA reveals.
