According to the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the Tbilisi City Court found two citizens of Ukraine guilty of illegal transactions with counterfeit currency. One of the accused, E. M., convicted of buying, storing, and selling counterfeit money, the other, A. A., found guilty of buying and saving counterfeit money by prior conspiracy.

The investigation revealed that on May 15, 2019, E.M., exchanged 500 euros at four points. Counterfeit currency is attached to the case as material evidence. During a personal search, law enforcers seized two more fake banknotes from the detainee. A.A. purchased for further sale and kept in his possession ten counterfeit 500 euro banknotes.

Officers seized a total of 20 pieces of 500 euro banknotes worth 10,000 euros.

E.M. and A.A. charged under part 2 of Article 212, subsection (a) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which implies purchase and retainment of a large amount of counterfeit currency by the group in advance.

The court sentenced two citizens of Ukraine to 7 years and six months in prison.
