A man later identified as Davit Gejadze, 48, has reportedly attempted to kidnap a 4-year-old boy, after mistaking him for a girl, by introducing himself to the child as his father and taking him from his yard.
The child's mother said that if not for her neighbours and the driver who refused to take the man and her child to the nearest metro station, the boy would have been abducted. Neighbours say that the man probably wanted to kidnap the child for ransom as he knew his father was abroad.
Police officers have detained the offender, who pleads not guilty and says that he does not remember the incident. If Gejadze is declared guilty, he will be sent behind bars for 7-10 years.
