Police officers in the Samegrelo region have detained an individual for an attempted assault on a police officer and illegal purchase and storage of firearms, according to the MIA. The detainee has a prior criminal record. Perpetrators of similar crimes receive a jail sentence between 3 and 20 years.
Investigators learned that on 17 January 2020, the defendant, known only as G.K., opened fire at a law enforcer on Chavchavadze Street and fled the crime scene. The offender was reportedly detained in Tsalenjikha Municipality.
The police retrieved a firearm as evidence. The investigation is underway.
