The officers of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have opened a case of robbery nearby the village of Riye in Zugdidi Municipality and arrested, E.G., born in 1983, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reports.
According to the agency, the offense carries a maximum sentence of 6 to 9 years in prison.
"The investigation revealed that the accused was in a car with his acquaintance, a woman born in 1994 when they were attacked. The robbers stole gold jewelry belonging to the woman. The investigation established that the robbery was planned and carried out by the accused according to a pre-agreed plan with his accomplices.
The police arrested E.G. shortly after the incident in Zugdidi Municipality.
Investigative and operative measures are underway to identify and arrest other persons involved in the crime.
The fact of gang robbery is being investigated under Article 179, Part 2, Subparagraph "b" of the Criminal Code of Georgia," the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.
