Officers of the Gardabani District Division of the Kvemo Kartli Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the Rustavi District Prosecutor's Office, as a result of joint operative-investigative measures, detained two persons, based on a court ruling.
Kh.P., born in 1968, convicted in the past and E.A., born in 1972, are accused of membership of the criminal group and extortion.
"Investigative actions carried out in the case revealed that Kh.P. and E.A. were acting following the rules established by the criminals. Defendant Kh.P. tried to gain material benefits for personal use and the benefit of the "thieves' world" by intimidating various people. Through the instructions of one of the criminal authorities living abroad, and the mediation of a trusted person, the second accused - E.A., he systematically connected with a fellow villager and extorted money by threatening to kill family members and damage their health," the Ministry of Internal Affairs spreads the statement.
According to the agency, the police arrested both the accused in their own houses in Gardabani Municipality based on the judge's verdict.
The facts of membership of criminal group and extortion are being investigated under Article 223 of the Criminal Code of Georgia and Article 181. The offenses carry a sentence of four to ten years in prison.
