Employees of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, as a result of operative-investigative measures, charged two persons for attempted fraudulently embezzling a particularly large amount of state-owned funds through the production and use of forged tax documents, the Investigation Service informs report.ge.
"The defendants, in order to obtain illegal material benefits and create fake VAT assets, fictitiously wrote fake tax invoices for the supply of construction materials worth GEL 500,000 among the companies registered in their name and demanded to receive the surplus VAT from the budget - GEL 76,271. As the persons mentioned above were unable to withdraw the money, one of the defendants, among other companies under his management, wrote tax documents reflecting a fictitious supply of construction materials worth GEL 200,000, thus creating an additional counterfeit asset in the amount of GEL 30,507.
As a result of timely measures, total damage of GEL 106,778 to the state budget was avoided," the agency said.
The investigation is underway under Article 210, Parts 2 and Article 180, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages imprisonment for a term of 6 to 9 years.
