The wounded soldier has been under hours-long surgery. Luckily, the soldier did not need to have the limb amputated; however, doctors say he is in serious condition, taken for treatment to ICU.
Thirty-year-old Dimitri Butskhrikidze was shot with a firearm in the third Infantry Brigade yard. A shot was fired from a moving vehicle, with the offender fleeing the scene. The severely wounded servicemen asked locals for help.
The victim's family members say that the soldier has no enemies, and they cannot name suspects.
However, witnesses say that before the injured soldier went unconscious, he dialed a number and named the offender via the phone, but locals are unaware of further details.
The investigation of the case is underway, with the perpetrator facing from seven to 15 years behind bars.
