Cannes Film Festival may be postponed again

Rumors regarding Europe's main film festival do not stop. It is usually held in mid-May, but due to a pandemic in 2020, it was postponed until the end of June, and then when another wave of coronavirus hit France, the festival organizers were forced to hold it in an unusual format.

In 2021, the pandemic in Europe is still not losing its strength and continues to limit cultural life. Theaters and cinemas have been closed, curfews have been imposed, and all this has no end. When it became apparent that the situation would not improve dramatically in May, festival director Thierry Frémaux said it would take place in July.

The festival started intensive preparation of its program and even sent invitations to journalists, started their accreditation process; however, the coronavirus continues to spread in France, and the country has been declared a high-risk zone. On March 29, French doctors even called on the government to close the borders "in the wake of the imminent catastrophe."

It is hard to hope that in the three months remaining until July, a miracle will happen, and France will be able to repel this wave of infection. Thus, it is likely that France will not be able to host the International Film Forum. According to information in the European press, the directorate considers another postponement of the Cannes Film Festival - this time until October.
